In my last round of pet reviews, I promised cats, and listen: I lied. But when have cats ever cooperated with a deadline? Someday soon, I will review the fine adoptable felines of the greater Portland metro area. But in the meantime, get a load of these cute dogs! And if you’re searching for love in non-Portland places, check out the “pet sommelier” recommendations for adoptable pups in other locations.

This week, we sample an earthy yellow lab, a flamboyant chihuahua, a hearty pit bull/hound, and a slightly acidic Australian shepherd mix.

Ziggy, three years old, yellow lab

Dog walking is a good way to build up your arm strength like for instance if you walk a three year old yellow lab who weighs 75 pounds and is blissfully oblivious to the concept of leash manners, patience being a virtue, or acknowledging the human being dragging behind on their afternoon galumph. As far as Ziggy was concerned, I was a dead-weight nuisance holding him back from cannonballing into the pond. He’s like a canine Blake Shelton: big, handsome, goofy, enthusiastic, maybe a little dumb…
