Veganism is magic and vegan bacon is the proof. With the right mix of ingredients, you can make pretty much turn anything into crispy, delicious vegan bacon, perfect for a Sunday brunch, a stacked sandwich, or a delicious salad.

You can transform so many different ingredients into vegan bacon, from tempeh to coconut flakes to tofu. But I decided to try four vegan bacon options made just from vegetables, rating them on crispiness and texture, ability to soak up flavor, and how well they would work in various recipes. Then, I share the only recipe you need to turn just about anything into bacon!

Shiitake

Rating: 9/10

This option was definitely my favorite of the ones I tried. The maple syrup helped the exterior of the mushroom slices get crispy, while the inside stayed juicy and tender. The only downside is that the pieces are a bit smaller than what you can do with carrots or sweet potatoes, so you might need more if you’re using shiitake bacon for something like a sandwich.

Carrot

Rating: 8/10

Carrot bacon has been around for a while, but it was made popular again…
