There’s a common misconception that being vegan is inherently expensive. People tend to believe that adopting a plant-based diet is only realistic for households that make a certain income. I’m here to tell you, as a broke freelance writer, that it’s absolutely not the case.

One of the main reasons people think veganism is expensive is because they’re comparing the prices of meat and dairy to the popular vegan substitutes — and those do add up! I can easily spend an extra $30 a week buying substitute cheese, fish, and ground beef. However, these are extras that are absolutely not necessary to have a satisfying and affordable vegan menu for the week.
