For many people around the world, life is not normal right now. School’s canceled, work is remote or nonexistent, and we have to keep away from our own faces. When our day-to-day pours out uncertainty, it’s time to tap into our core selves, our dearest beliefs. For animal rights activists and ethical vegans, this means that we need to summon our first reasons for becoming vegan and channel that energy forward into uncertain times. How do we hold tight to our values during unstable times, when we can’t leaflet or potluck? How can we act to help vulnerable animals when we feel heavy with the weight of our current crisis? So many opportunities exist at our fingertips, with no hand shakes or fist bumps required!
- Volunteer at shelters and sanctuaries (very few humans involved). If you are able to be out and about, consider socializing cats or walking dogs at a local shelter. We can interact with as many animals as will let us! Volunteering at a farm-animal sanctuary can be even less human contact; our local sanctuary has tools available so that people may do farm chores with very little direction.
