Welcome back to the column I refuse to stop referring to as Elisapets, featuring totally objective and unbiased reviews — just kidding I have a lot of very strong, subjective opinions about pets, and am going to share them with you.

These are dogs I’ve actually met and walked in Portland, Oregon, but the Pet Sommelier feature will introduce you to similar adoptable dogs in other parts of the U.S. If you’re considering adding a pet to your family, I strongly recommend visiting your local shelter and volunteering if you have the time. You never know who you’re going to meet, and it feels good to visit with animals who need a little extra care and attention.

This week, we sample a nervy husky mix, a subtle young kelpie, a bright German Shepherd, a full-bodied schipperke, and a down-to-earth boxer mix.

Brady is our hunk o’ the week, but he’s not a hunk for all people. Whether due to past bad experiences or simply lack of exposure, Brady is uneasy around men and masculine-presenting people and needs a strong femme presence to help him…
