Rescued By a Vegan Sanctuary, These Farmed Animals Are Now Thriving
Peace Ridge Sanctuary is home to around 300 rescued farmed and companion animals. Here are some of their stories
Founded on vegan and social justice values, Peace Ridge Sanctuary exists to provide a permanent home for abused and neglected animals and use their stories to educate people on the importance of fighting against animal exploitation and abuse.
Located in Maine, the sanctuary’s 800 sprawling acres are home to around 300 rescued farmed and companion animals at any given time, said Director of Development, Humane Education & Outreach Melissa Andrews.
“We’re really an organization that seeks to help all animals,” Andrews explained. “While farmed animals make up the majority of our residents, we have a companion animal rescue program that focuses on special needs and high risk dogs. We also have devoted over 650 acres of our property to wildlife conservation and land preservation and we work with wildlife rehabbers as well who will release animals that they have rehabilitated onto our property because it is a large, safe place for them.”
Many of the farmed animals that come to Peace Ridge Sanctuary come as a result of neglect and abuse cases involving small, local farms…
