Since becoming vegan four years ago, chef Rachel Ama has already made a mark on the plant-based food scene. The 27-year-old’s YouTube recipe videos have amassed over 11 million views, this summer she released her debut cookbook, Rachel Ama’s Vegan Eats, and she recently collaborated with the UK branches of plant-based eatery by CHLOE. to create three dishes in celebration of World Vegan Month. Her personal mantra is “If you want to do something, make it happen,” so perhaps her success perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise.

It was a greater awareness of the treatment of animals that drove Ama’s transition to veganism. “I’ve always loved animals and had pets,” she tells me. “I just hadn’t made the association between that and the meat I ate. I saw the real journey and it broke my heart.” She had already removed dairy from her diet, “but as soon as I saw how meat and fish ended up on my plate, I went vegan.”
