Pigs and Bears Want the Same Thing

President Trump eased restrictions on killing bear cubs and wolf puppies in their dens — is that more outrageous than factory farming?

In 2015, then-President Barack Obama heeded a call from wildlife activists and banned certain types of hunting on federal land, including cruel practices such as baiting bears with human food to lure them out of their dens, targeting swimming caribou from motorboats, and shooting wolf puppies in their dens. Last week, Trump rolled back those protections, and did so — giving the ok to large game enthusiasts, such as his sons, to treat wildlife preserves like their own personal murder playground. Another popular hunting technique, now again allowed on national preserves in Alaska, involves blinding mother bears who are at home with their cubs with bright spotlights, and then shooting them all dead.

Descriptions of these practices make me so sick I could just sit down and sob. You might feel the same way. Gauging by posts I have seen on this topic, a lot of people do. It is truly horrifying to know that some people enjoy taking the life of a mother and her cubs, that they take pride in snuffing out animals who are simply trying to live a life of peace on land that’s supposed to be protected by the country that “owns” it.
