Veganism and New York City have something in common: people think they’re really expensive, but they don’t have to be

New York City is a paradise for plant-eaters, but eating vegan food in the city can get pricey… if you don’t know where to look. You could eat $15 vegan Mac and Cheese (if you’d like to, I’d recommend S’mac), but you could also eat $6 dumplings on St. Marks Place or $4 pepperoni pizza in Williamsburg (shoutout to Screamer’s) that is just as tasty and just as vegan.

Tenderly sent me on a mission to prove that vegan food in New York City can be affordable and delicious: $20 dollars a day x two days in New York City. The ground rules are pretty simple: I have to eat out at restaurants, and the food I eat has to be vegan. Here’s how I did it…

Day One

I’m feeling a little anxious, because while I am a cheap vegan kween, I have never tried to live on $20 in NYC. It’s a challenge, but one I think I can manage.
