The true story of a cat who explores the world by eating first and asking questions later

We have one plant in our home. It is a Boston fern named … Fern. What else? She is hanging in the corner of the living room quickly outgrowing her pot. I know the time is coming when I will have to re-pot Fern, but if her pot gets bigger, she gets heavier. Much too weighted for hanging.

Fern must be kept out of reach from our trio of cats. There are not many places our cats can’t go. Once Fern is re-potted, she will have to be moved to the top of the refrigerator. This is where all the flowers my husband buys for me live for the same reason. The cats will eat them.

Especially Nicholas, my beautiful black house panther miniature.

While pruning Fern, he stands underneath waiting for dried leaves to fall so he can greedily eat the droppings.

After Fern is properly thinned, he looks upward and cries. “What? No more? But I love Fern droppings.”

Nicholas will not, however, eat the very expensive prescription diet unless we mix it with Fancy Feast. This may be undoing the purpose of the expensive prescription diet in the first place, but we are doing what we can for the little boogers (said with love and respect). The food is for weight…
