Make Your Own Vegan Magic Shell With Just 2 Ingredients
This topping is perfect for ice cream, fruit, or anything else you want to cover in chocolate
The bad news is that Smucker’s Magic Shell is not vegan; the good news is you can easily make a vegan version of this magical sauce with only two ingredients, a bowl, a spoon, and a microwave.
If you’ve never had magic shell, it is a chocolate sauce (it actually does come in other flavors, but chocolate is the best) that hardens upon contact with ice cream, creating a hard shell. You can also use this magic shell sauce to dip fruit, pretzels, or anything else you want chocolate-covered; all you have to do is let the dipped items set in the fridge for around 20 minutes.
The secret ingredient that makes magic shell so, well, magical is the simple addition of oil to melted chocolate. In this recipe, the coconut oil helps the chocolate fully harden when it is cold and adds some nice coconut flavor to the sauce. If you do not eat coconut, you can experiment with other oils like sunflower oil, but just keep in mind the ratios may be slightly different.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup vegan chocolate chips (if you want to find the best chocolate, check out Food Empowerment Project’s chocolate list)
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Instructions:
- Add chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave in increments, stirring the mixture every 30 seconds until completely melted.
- Pour sauce over your ice cream, watch it magically harden, and enjoy!
