Let’s All Celebrate Martha Stewart’s Drunken Comment on a Video of Baby Chicks

Thursday started like any other day. We all sheltered in place, as we do now, trying to make our lives make sense in a troubling time: feeding our sourdough starters; learning to knit; watching Netflix; frantically looking after our children who never leave the house any more; longing for the distant dream of daycare. You know—the usual.

But then two beautiful things happened at once. Two perfectly normal but also perfectly lovely things that by themselves would be unremarkable, but together … well, together, they were rocket fuel. A supernova. A double rainbow. A twin star in our galaxy, gleaming with hope and possibility. First, a family in Marfa, Texas, finished building the backyard chicken coop for their baby chicks and posted a video. Then, like a beautiful butterfly opening its wings to welcome a fresh breeze on an otherwise still morning, Martha Stewart got drunk.
