Much to the disbelief of my meat-eating friends, I do not miss any of the menu items available at the big fast food chains. This is because I have access to the internet, and I can see the horrifying things those foodstuffs are made of. I miss KFC and McDonald’s about as much as former Fear Factor contestants miss eating that wedding cake the show’s producers made for them out of bugs and alligator eyeballs.

But. Something I do miss is convenience.

Especially on road trips. When a non-vegan is driving on some deserted highway miles from the nearest urban center, they can think to themselves “I’m hungry,” pull off at the next exit, and have six different options waiting for them. But the vegan version of that experience usually involves driving 40 miles to the nearest Denny’s only to be told that, sorry, they’re actually out of the veggie patties today. It’s having to reassure your non-vegan traveling companions that, honestly, you really don’t mind eating fries and a side salad that looks like it might be just iceberg lettuce for lunch again.
