I’ve worked in animal welfare for about 10 years. When I first started, I knew very little about my local “pound.” I had been fired from two jobs for being an idiot (I was 18, cut me some slack), and I was applying to anything that required minimal qualifications. I happened to interview at a dog boarding/daycare facility, and then I was hired as a dog trainer. I had zero qualifications to train dogs, other than having trained my childhood dog some basic obedience.

I fell in love with working with dogs and started volunteering at my local animal shelter to get a wider range of experience. Suddenly, I was totally hooked. I knew from that point forward that this industry was where I wanted to be. The shelter offered me a position and my brain exploded. I’ve since had the opportunity to work with animal shelters across the country, at all financial levels, in various regions with their own unique challenges, and worked with some of the top professionals in this business.
