1. ‘Rattlesnakes’ — Lloyd Cole and the Commotions

Wonderfully jaunty, with those forthright violins and arch lyrical references to Eva-Marie Saint in On the Waterfront.

2. ‘Rats’ — Pearl Jam

The lyrics of this song compare human behavior with that of rats, but in their defense, Eddie Vedder later conceded in an interview that “rats are probably a hell of a lot more admirable.”
