They’re the closest thing to a dog in the cat world

Three years ago, I had the difficult task of persuading my now-husband to get a cat. He was adamantly a dog person — he liked cats, but he was convinced they were inferior to dogs as house pets.

Now, he loves both our cats with his whole heart, but when I was trying to convince him, I found the best method was to find a cat that met his needs.

He said cats weren’t loyal? I found a breed that was. He said he wanted to walk a dog? I found a cat breed that loves walks. He said dogs…

Cats are mystical animals. Pop culture would have you believe they’re capricious, confusing, clever, and conniving. Cat people (or the people who belong to cats, in more accurate terms) have struggled for millennia to understand cats and their mysterious appeal to humans.

The problem with mysticism, of course, is that it gives rise to conspiracy theories that somehow end up being treated as fact — or even policy, in certain cases. …

From Tortellini to Strudel, these animals named after food are exactly what you need to cheer up right now

As the subject line of nearly every recent email has indicated, the last year has truly been “trying” (and all of its synonyms) for us all. Objectively and subjectively, the last 12 months or so have been a horrible, steaming-bag-of-horse-shit time.

Despite this, pets remain good. They’ve been our constant companions and in many cases, our stand-in co-workers. They’ve been there to warm our laps, lick our tears, and sit on our keyboards so that they can send messages like “////// —” and “bbbbbbnjsdkl” to our colleagues on Slack.

While all pets are spectacular, there’s something about pets with food…

What could possibly be better than cute cat blogs?

Cute cat blogs that help cats.

With cat videos forever basking near the top of the viral content pyramid, the entire world loves to be entertained by these amazing creatures to no end. But true cat lovers care about more than just entertainment. We want to see every cat in the world looked after and happy. We want a world where no animals are left hungry and alone.

As per the latest estimate, 10 million cats live abandoned or stray in the UK alone. …

In an abysmal year, these cats showed us hope and resilience, and (in one case) climbed into a pair of pants

The cats, at least, did nothing wrong in 2020. In fact, they distinguished themselves, and we would be remiss if we did not take a moment to acknowledge them. These are the most important cats of this most difficult year. Let us celebrate them and sing their praises.

30. Pant-Leg Cats

If like so many of us you have often felt unequal to the challenges of this year, remember that we all put our pants on one leg at a time and that for at least one of us, that’s gonna result in two very scratchy surprises.

Kittens are as cute as can be — here are 3 of my favorite Cat-itudes!

We’ve already established that puppies are among the cutest creatures in the world, with their heart-melting “puppy dog” eyes. It’s impossible to resist hugging a puppy.

The same can be said for our feline friends, whose little ones never cease to warm the spirit. Kittens come with their own set of traits to love, and a kitten on the schedule at my veterinary practice always adds a fun, adorable spark to my day.

Each little kitten has its own personality, and as a veterinarian, I get to see them all. Here are my three favorites…

It was a sunny afternoon in April and my mother and I were having a walk when suddenly, while crossing the street, I saw a white cat in the distance, and he was running towards us… towards me. It stopped by my side and started meowing, attempting to climb my foot. I immediately kneeled and stroked it, and it instantly started purring — it was like love at first sight!

Within a few seconds, I noticed that he was male, no more than a year old, and badly hurt. His eyes were injured and had some trouble breathing properly. He…

Why not?

I came across this picture of my boy Irwin while reminiscing about our life together. Irwin was born under a friend’s house and he came to live with me when I was 25 and he was six months old. Together we went through breakups, family emergencies, a new career, and a move to and back from New York City. We preferred Austin.

He was my best friend, the most purely loving creature I’ve had the pleasure of knowing, I miss him every day, and one time I made him this friendship bracelet. He wore it for a few hours, but…

I recently gave birth to my first child — a beautiful, healthy boy. It took many years and ups and downs for us to get here.

Only nine months after our first date, my now-husband moved to Dublin, Ireland, to take a job in the online gaming space. Being a newly-minted couple, neither of us entertained the notion of me moving with him. I stayed behind, continued to teach 7th grade language arts, and we maintained a long-distance relationship.

We survived nearly a year of video chats and expensive phone calls before I moved to Dublin to be with him…
